Anybody out there know anything about WW2 Fighting KNIVES made by Floyd Nichols, David City Nebraska?
This knife was carried by an Army advance scout in the Phillipines in WW2. I was wondering if it was an individual purchase item, or a “substitute-standard” issue item. I lean towards that theory, as the scabbard and the crossguard are both depot imprinted (stamped) with the soldier’s name and SN.
All I’ve found of it on the net, is a couple of pictures of various models.with a grip arrangement like mine, but with slightly different blades on each of them, and the information that they’ve been covered in in articles in various knife publications I have no access to. I’ve tried asking this question in the military section of answers, without any luck. I thought I’d try again in the hunting section, knowing that a signifigant number of hunters are interested in knives and WW2 collecting.
Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
Perhaps some of you have some of those books? Please look it up somebody!
He made what has come to be known as “homefront theater knives” for grunts heading to the Pacific and Europe. They were purchased individually by soldiers and families of fighting men and marked with their info. He’s right up there with Frank Little and John Ek et al. Your fellow either purchased it directly or had it given to him by his family and friends etc. It was in no way official issue.
I’d love to help further but I have no access to my library at this time. Try a web search on homefront theater knife….you might get lucky.
