What can I use to clean a wooden butcher block?
I have an island in the middle of my kitchen. The top of it is wood, like a butcher block. The previous house owners used this as a cutting board (UGHH). What can I use to clean it with? Everything just soaks into it quickly. Also, is there anything you can do to remove knife marks from it?
You can have it re-sanded. To clean my cutting boards I use Baking soda and white vinegar. It cleans it and the white vinegar kills bacteria. When the butcher block gets old you can re-sand it and then there is a butcher block oil to put on it sold at most hardware stores. It is safe to use for food products and especially for bread boards and butcher blocks. Some people want to bleach it and for that you can use lemon pieces cut in half and just rub it into the wood along with the baking soda. Then use the butcher block polishing oil after and it will soak into the block.
