is it illegal to carry a knife in canada?

someone said this to me and im wondering if its true.
i always carry a pocket knife around with me. the blade is about 4 inches.
is this aloud?
i live in newfoundland by the way

It’s illegal to carry a concealed weapon, and a knife can be considered a weapon. If you keep your pocket knife in you pocket, it’s concealed. But, it is not illegal to carry a tool. If you have a use for this knife in your job, or for a (legal) hobby, or as a religious symbol, then it is allowed.

Also, police do not normally enforce issues with Swiss Army KNIVES, Leatherman tools, etc., even if you do not have a specific need for them, as long as you don’t give them any reason to be concerned about you. Switchblades and other quick access knives which are specifically designed as weapons are different.

Of course, schools, airports, etc. can place tighter restrictions at their discretion.
