Quality or quantity this holiday season?

What with slim wallets being a trend among many today (including myself) I found myself buying one good present for each my parents. A Swis army Knife for my dad (the Victorinox brand. The original SA Knife) and a Pyrex baking dish with hot/cold pack and insulated transport case. I’d like your opinion on my choices (not that it’ll have much effect) as well as what youd rather do this season. Either of these: various affordable gifts, or one Dead-ringer of a present for each person on your wish list.
