What kind of KNIVES are legal to carry in California?

I live in California in a changing world and I'm in the market for a knife capable of carrying. Before making a purchase I make sure I'm not going to buy something that's going to land in the county jail. Preferably I would like a knife. What the limitations of knives you can carry in your pocket? What about knives that appear on the tape (not hidden)?

You can not carry knives or Daggers hidden on his person. Any fixed blade knife or knife with a blade in a fixed open position, is a dirk or dagger. It is lawful to carry a fixed blade knife in a sheath belt if the entire knife and sheath are visible. Other butterfly knives, which are prohibited if the blade is 2 "long or more, no limit to carry a knife, either openly or covertly. (There are some prohibitions in schools, public buildings, etc) Note that this is state law, there may be some regulations local regulations. I believe that these ordinances can not be relied upon (and it does not seem to be being implemented), but I will not be the one to prove that, so it should come before their local laws.
