Throwing KNIVES for beginner?
I have a choice between two types of throwing knives to get for christmas. I have little experience at all, so I want to know which of these two wold be a better choice:

I found the product descripions on the net:
“A new, smaller, version of the popular 12 inch competition thrower triple set. Constructed of a solid piece of 420 stainless steel. Blade Length: 4-1/2 in. Overall Length: 8-1/2 in. ”
This one is symmetrical, a friend told me this made a difference?
The other is:
“One-piece 420 J2 stainless steel blade and handle. Blade length of 4.25 in. High tensile cord-wrapped handle. Overall length of 8.63 in.”
It only has a one sided blade.
Both are used, I’m supposed to pick one. (gift from cousin who is getting new ones)
Any ideas on which would be the better choice?
Don’t get either of these knives; a) they’re too short – most competitive throwers use knives in the 12-14 inch range; and b) you should always buy a set of knives rather than just one so you don’t waste time going to the target after one throw.
Instead of a knife, ask your cousin to buy you the book “Combat Knife Throwing” by Ralph Thorn. You can find a copy on Amazon.com. Even though the style of throwing Thorn advocates is unorthodox, you might find it more rewarding, plus he teaches you how to make your own knives.
